The course enables students to:
CLASS RULES:
· Classwork/Homework: 40% - includes weekly vocabulary work, all warm up work, class notes and assignments in notebook.
· Notebook check: 25% – monthly accumulation of all class work/notes.
· Tests: 15% - weekly vocabulary tests, practice ACT/FCAT tests.
· Participation: 15% - active and constructive contribution to class work and discussion, active engagement on computer tasks.
· Projects: 5%. – one per quarter.
- Determine Central Ideas or themes of a text and analyze their development.
- Summarize the key supporting details and ideas.
- Interpret words and phrases as they are used in a text, including determining technical, connotative, and figurative meanings.
- Analyze how specific word choices shape meaning or tone.
- Integrate and evaluate content presented in diverse formats and media, including visual and quantitative forms, as well as in words.
- Delineate and evaluate the argument and specific claims in a text, including the validity of the reasoning as well as the source, relevance and sufficiency of the evidence.
- Write in response to reading, emulating authors’ structures, word choices, styles, etc.
- Writing implement – Pens, Mechanical pencil (extra lead) or 3 sharpened pencils. Colors are welcome
- Loose leaf paper
- Notebook is REQUIRED – used daily and graded monthly.

- Wait to be recognized before speaking.
- Be respectful of others and leave your area clean.
- Use the laptop only when instructed and for the assigned work.
- All cell phones and electronics must be turned off and put away.

Assignments must be dated and written into notebooks to receive credit.
Only 5 extra credit assignments will be accepted per week. Large submissions of extra credit work will not be accepted, especially at the end of a quarter. Students will be required to take the whole ACT (3 hours), they are not permitted to leave the test early as it disrupts other test takers.
It is the student's responsibility to sign up for this test. Go to ACT.org
